VoIP Phone Systems for Tradies — Works on Your Mobile, No Hardware, No Lock-in
When you're under a house or up a ladder, the phone keeps ringing, and the next tradie on the customer's list is one tap away. Click2Call puts a business number on the mobile you already carry, takes the job details when you can't answer, and tells you about every call you missed.
7-day free trial, $11 of call credit, no card to sign up.

Key Takeaways
- ✓Your mobile, your business number. Calls to the business number reach your mobile, and calls you make can show the business number instead of your personal one.
- ✓Job details while you're on the tools. The free Answer Agent asks for the caller's name, number, suburb and job, then emails you the lot with a transcript.
- ✓Urgent jobs still get through. After hours, an emergency option can ring the on-call mobile while everything else waits until morning.
- ✓Plays nicely with simPRO. simPRO Premium's built-in softphone connects to Click2Call in about twenty minutes.
- ✓$25 a month for a sole trader. That covers a local number and 300 outbound minutes, with no lock-in contract.
The job you lose while you're up a ladder
Plenty of trade businesses lose work without ever knowing it. A customer with a burst pipe or a dead power point rang, nobody answered, and they rang someone else.
You can't answer every call. You're on a roof, under a sink, driving, or halfway through explaining a quote to someone standing in front of you. What you can do is give every caller a way to reach you, or to leave enough detail for you to ring back and win the job.
That's what this setup is for. It isn't a call centre and it isn't a new phone. It's a smarter way for calls to reach the phone in your pocket, plus a safety net for the ones you can't take.
Two ways to put a business number on your mobile
You don't need a desk phone, a second handset or an office. There are two ways to run a business number from the mobile you already have, and you can use both at once.
Forward calls to your mobile
Calls to your business number are sent on to your normal mobile number, so they ring like any other call, even when data is patchy. This is the most dependable way to receive calls on the road. A forwarded call is billed as an outbound call from your line, so it uses your 300 included minutes first.
Use the Secure VoIP app
The app turns your mobile into a business extension over data or Wi-Fi. Its main job is outgoing calls: when you ring a customer back, they see your business number rather than your personal mobile, so your private number stays private.
Keeping your personal number off quotes, invoices and the side of the ute means you can switch off on weekends. Customers ring the business, and the business decides where the call goes.
If you have an office manager or a partner who takes bookings, a ring group can ring their phone and yours at the same time, and whoever is free picks up.
Let the Answer Agent take the job details
Voicemail is where jobs go to die. Plenty of people won't leave a message, and the ones who do say 'it's Dave, call me back' with no number and no clue what the job is.
The Answer Agent fixes that. Your phone rings first, for 20 seconds unless you change it. If you can't pick up, an AI voice answers, asks the questions you've chosen, waits for each answer, and emails you everything with a transcript of the call.
Good questions for a trade business:
- ✓Your name and the best number to call you back on
- ✓The suburb or address of the job
- ✓What's the problem, or what work do you need done?
- ✓Is it urgent, or can it wait a few days?
You read the email at smoko and ring back knowing exactly what the job is. You pick from 38 voices and write the greeting yourself, so it sounds like your business.
It won't quote, book jobs or promise an arrival time. It takes the details and leaves the selling to you. The Answer Agent is included free with Click2Call.
Missed-call alerts add a second net: when any call rings out, you get a text or an email straight away, so you can ring back before the customer moves on.
After-hours and emergency callouts
Plumbers, electricians, locksmiths and glaziers all get calls that can't wait. The trick is letting genuine emergencies through without being woken up by someone wanting a quote on a deck.
Business hours on your number handle it automatically. During the day, calls follow your normal plan. After hours, callers hear a short message and can press 1 for an emergency, which rings the on-call mobile. Everyone else goes to the Answer Agent and you deal with them in the morning.
If you charge an after-hours callout fee, say so in the message. Callers who aren't happy to pay it will usually leave a message instead.
Closing over Christmas? Put your shutdown dates in ahead of time, so the holiday message plays for the whole break without you touching a thing.
simPRO, Zoho and other job software
If you run your jobs in simPRO, Click2Call works with simPRO Premium's built-in softphone, so the office can make and take calls inside simPRO with the caller matched to the right customer card. Our step-by-step guide gets it connected in about twenty minutes. The one setting that trips people up is the server port: use 5060, not 5061.
Zoho CRM users get a free integration: click a number in Zoho to call it, see who's calling before you answer, and keep calls and recordings on the customer record.
For other job management apps, the API and webhooks send call events (ringing, answered, ended, missed) to whatever system you use. There's no one-click app for those, so it takes a small piece of code or a tool such as Zapier or n8n.
Keeping the number customers already have
Your number is on the van, the website and a hundred fridge magnets, so keeping it matters. Landline and 1300 numbers can be ported to Click2Call for $100 inc GST per number. Local numbers usually take 5–10 business days and 1300 or 1800 numbers up to 30 days. Your old service keeps working until the number moves, so don't cancel it first.
Mobile numbers are different. Whether one can be ported depends on the carrier, and once it moves, the SIM in your phone no longer receives calls on that number. Calls then reach you through forwarding or the app.
A simpler option for many sole traders is to leave the mobile exactly as it is and add a new local business number. Your personal number stays yours, and the business number can go on everything from now on.
Working regional and remote
The phone system runs in the cloud, so your number works wherever your calls can reach you. Forwarded calls travel over the mobile network. The app works over 4G, 5G, Wi-Fi, NBN or Starlink, and our help centre covers the settings for good call quality over Starlink.
When you're out of coverage, calls don't vanish. They go to the Answer Agent or voicemail, and the details are waiting in your inbox when you get signal back.
Local numbers are available across Australia, so a business based in Toowoomba can have an 07 number and one in Bendigo an 03, wherever the owner happens to be working that week.
Texting customers from the business number
A quick 'on my way, about 20 minutes out' text saves a phone call. With an Australian mobile number on your account, you can send and receive SMS through the portal, by email, or from your own software through the API. Texts go out from that number at 20c each, and replies appear in the portal and are emailed to you.
It's also handy for confirming the next day's jobs the night before, or letting a customer know a part has arrived.
What it costs
| Setup | Monthly (ex GST) | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Sole trader | $25 | A local business number, 300 outbound minutes, Answer Agent, missed-call alerts |
| Owner plus office manager | $50 | Two users who can each make and take calls, ringing together or in order |
| Add a 1300 number | +$10 | Receive-only national number; incoming calls to it cost 20c a minute |
| Port your existing number | $100 inc GST, once | Per number |
Calls beyond your included minutes cost 10c a minute to landlines and 20c a minute to mobiles. No lock-in contract, and no hardware to buy.
A busy operator who forwards lots of calls to a mobile will use the included minutes faster, because each forwarded call counts as an outbound call. Keep an eye on usage in the portal during your first month.
