Sending and Receiving SMS on Your Business Mobile

Send and receive text messages on an Australian mobile number on your account, from the portal, by email, or from your own software. Texts go out from that mobile number, so the people you text see it and can reply. Replies appear in the portal and are emailed to you. Texts can only go to mobiles.

What you need

An Australian mobile number on your account. We can add a new one for $10 a month, or you can port your own mobile number for a one-off $100 including GST, then $10 a month. A landline, 1300 or 1800 number can't send or receive texts.

Sending is off until our support team turns it on. Contact support and ask for SMS to be enabled; we verify your identity before sending is allowed. Until then, the Compose and Groups pages under SMS say that sending is not enabled.

Send from the portal

  1. Click SMS in the top menu.
  2. Click Send a new Message.
  3. Enter the mobile number and your message, and send.

Sent messages and replies appear under Messages. Use Groups to send the same text to a list of people.

Send by email

Allow your email address

  1. Go to Voice → Line Manager, click the number to send from, and choose Other Settings → SMS Messaging.
  2. Enter each email address allowed to send texts, one per line.
  3. Optionally set a passphrase. Put it in the subject of every SMS email. It's removed before the text is sent.
  4. Save.

Send a text

Email the mobile number at the SMS gateway. The subject and body are joined to make the message. Leave the subject blank if you only want the body.

To: 0412345678@sms.click2call.com.au
Subject: Hi Sam,
Body: your order is ready to collect.

A text holds 160 characters. Anything longer is cut off, so split long messages into several emails. For numbers outside Australia, include the country code.

Replies

When someone replies, the reply appears under SMS → Messages in the portal, and you also get an email showing their reply, their number and your original message. The email goes to the address set for the sending number, or to your account email if none is set.

To change that for the whole account, go to SMS → Settings:

For one number only, use the same options on its Other Settings → SMS Messaging page.

Send from your own software

The portal API includes SMS functions to send messages, read replies and manage groups. In the portal, go to API → SMS Functions for the details. See also the Developer API.

Cost

Each text costs 20c (ex GST), billed to your account. The mobile number it sends from is $10 a month (ex GST).
