Secure VoIP on Android: Fixing Missed Calls and Battery Saving

Android phones save battery by putting apps to sleep. The Secure VoIP app is woken by a push notification when a call comes in, but some phones' battery savers block that, so calls are missed while the app is closed. A few settings fix it.

Signs of the problem

Calls ring when the app is open, but are missed or go to voicemail when the phone is locked or the app has been closed for a while.

Let the app run in the background

  1. Open your phone's Settings → Apps → Secure VoIP.
  2. Open Battery and choose Unrestricted (on some phones, Don't optimise or Allow background activity).
  3. Check Notifications are allowed for the app.
  4. On Samsung, Xiaomi, Oppo and Huawei phones, also remove the app from any "sleeping apps" or battery-saver list.

If the app has its own background or keep-alive setting in its settings, turn it on as well.

Test it

Close the app, lock your phone, and call your number from another phone. If it rings, you're set. If it doesn't, check the settings above again, or set a ring group so calls also ring your mobile number directly.
